Surplus from our events funds donations to worthy causes in and around the villages — from the churches and village halls to the youth club and local school.
BEC has been organising events for the Baldons villages for over a decade. Our flagship event is the annual Fireworks & Bonfire Night each November — drawing 800 to 1,000 people to the village green and providing the income that makes everything else possible.
That surplus subsidises both regular events such as our annual Summer event on the Green, the annual Carol singing and Christmas tree celebration outside the Stars — with the tree kindly donated each year by the Christmas Tree Farm on the Baldon Lane, and one-off entertainment such as the successful Safari Suppers, past Barn Dance and the Balls. Importantly it also allows us to make donations to organisations throughout the community.
Over the years BEC has donated to the village churches, the youth club, hand bells, the Baldon Players, village halls, the Seven Stars, the Lunch Club — and most recently, a new computer for the village school.
We also invest in equipment — marquees, tables and everything needed to put on a great village event — which is stored at the village hall and available to the whole community.
Our events only happen because villagers give up their time to help. Whether it's putting up marquees, helping with the bar, marshalling car parking, or taking everything down at the end of the night — we always need willing hands.
